As a writer, the line between memory and fiction is often blurred. And, at times, I find myself trusting my stories more than my own recollections.

About Gary Wade

Gary is a North Carolina writer, outdoorsman, and Louis L'Amour aficionado. He was shaped by swamps and mountains, and the hard-earned lessons of rural life. And he believes writing is his one true gift—he’s grateful for that, because it keeps him focused.

As a kid, he crafted tales in kindergarten shorthand but was placed in another school for his slow academic progress. He insists he wasn’t behind, simply lost in better stories. Later, he would struggle to graduate high school, and when he turned in his first creative writing assignment, his English teacher would accuse him of plagiarism.

However, his life hasn’t been singularly focused. Gary served as a United States Marine, turning wrenches on jets, investigating crimes, and running more miles than he’d care to count. After retiring, he was hired as an English teacher. During that time, he coached high school athletics, advised a school yearbook committee, and always donated to bake sales, even if he didn’t take a brownie for himself. As a father, he has said things like:

“Why would you do a jump-kick off a freshly painted wall?”

“Quit bringing bugs into the classroom.”

“Don’t put that in your mouth.”

All of these experiences shape the heart of Gary’s fiction. His stories aim to fascinate and educate, to stir imagination while grounding readers in truth. He writes for the future leaders—those who crave meaning and purpose, and those who are still figuring out what they stand for. To Gary, a book is both a refuge and a classroom. And through his work, he hopes to inspire the same perseverance he found in the words of so many authors that came before him.

His writing leans toward the young adult genre, though some stories may resonate more with mature readers. You’re invited to explore his portfolio, which includes free-to-read stories, a summary of his novel, The Seeing, and book recommendations.
