  The Seeing

Delta’s world reeks of outlaws, poverty, and broken promises. Raised in a house where violence is currency, and fear is power, he learns early that survival must be fought for—and that everything comes with a price. But when an injury awakens something supernatural, he learns he can smell people’s intentions and can see their desires… even twist them if he dares.

When Delta is sent to live with a foster family, he meets the other foster kids who have been sent to live at the Harrison Home: a narcissistic golden boy, a girl too betrayed to know love, an eclectic, and a recluse. Among the kudzu and sunburnt front porches, his powers continue to grow, and so does the weight of his choices. And when passion turns violent, secrets rot beneath the surface, and redemption feels just out of reach, he must decide whether he’s a product of his past or the author of something new.

The Seeing is a tale of scarred hearts, fantastic gifts, and the long, winding road to grace. A cross between The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmid, this book is for readers who believe that even the ugliest roots can bloom if given light.

Who should read The Seeing?

I believe that good literature should leave a lasting impression. It should teach, challenge preconceptions, and be so engaging that when the reader turns the last page, they say, “Oh my.” Good literature will ripple through the soul. It will scar. Then, it will heal.

This book is for:

The seeker—the one who senses there’s more beneath the surface of things, who craves stories that echo with spiritual depth and emotional truth.

The wounded—readers who have known loss, loneliness, or longing, and are ready to walk through the dark to find the light.

The thinker—those who want their fiction to challenge assumptions, stir questions, and linger long after the final chapter.

The empath—the ones who feel deeply. Them who find family in the characters of their stories, and who believe redemption is never out of reach.

The wanderer of wild places—lovers of Southern Gothic shadows, fantastic gifts, and stories of good triumphing over evil.

The young adult—and the once-young—anyone navigating the in-between spaces of identity, belief, and becoming. Or those daring to revisit such moments in time.

An excerpt from Prisoner 2641…

“Take a plea deal,” the lawyer said.

“I don’t want to.”

He shuffled some papers on his desk. It wasn’t much—didn’t accomplish anything. He sighed and looked at the clock on his wall, and I fidgeted a little. His suit had already started to wrinkle, and the stubble on his neck snagged the collar of his shirt, so that every movement of his head made a sound like Velcro being pulled across itself. The noise of it made my skin crawl and beckoned me to scratch at my own five o’clock shadow.

Looking for any reprieve, I moved my attention to the wall behind his desk. There hung his degrees, three of them, perfectly aligned and accumulating dust. They were framed with black borders and signed in a pretentious cursive script. The sight of them made me want to punch him.

Instead, I crossed the office and poured a glass of his cognac without asking. He shuffled the papers a little more.

“You could move.”

“And give up everything I’ve worked for?” The cognac was bitter, but I poured another. I heard the lawyer swivel in his seat, the wooden heels of his shoes knocking the desk top.

“It’s an option.”

“A poor one,” I said. I left the glass of liquor on the counter as I took to investigating a wobble in the near leg of an ottoman.

“You would only be moving to the next town over.”

“But I can do what I want here. Why would I volunteer to live like a slave?”

“There’s plenty of sun. Makes people happy.” With a letter opener, he picked at a tooth as he spoke. “Clear skies most of the year.”

“We get sun here.”

“Not much.”

“To hell with the sun anyway.”
